OPENING TIP

The University of Dallas men's basketball team is on the road for two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) games on Friday and Saturday. Respectively, the Crusaders will be at Austin College with an 8 p.m. tip-off and then travel to Centenary College the next day for a 6 p.m. start.

Dallas is 5-7 overall and 0-3 against conference opponents. UD is in the midst of a 12-game swing facing SCAC foes. Currently, the Crusaders are 0-2 with setbacks at home last weekend to Southwestern University (85-73) and Texas Lutheran University (77-70).


UD NOTES

- Darrius Colvin (Waco, Texas) continues to produce a career year and ranks second on the team in scoring with 145 points and 12.1 points-per-game (ppg). Colvin also leads the squad in rebounding (83) and second in blocked shots (13). The 13 rejections tie a personal best, thanks to career game coming last outing with four.

- Prince Giadolor (Rockwall, Texas) is the team leader in scoring with 156 points and averaging 13 a game. He rounds out the top three players on the boards (51), second in assists (54), and final part of a quartet over double-digits in steals (14).

- Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) and Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.) round out the top four scorers that are over triple-digits with 11.5 and 11.4 ppg, respectively. Sarrat joins Colvin with 16 steals apiece and has hit the most three-pointers (19) on the squad.

- Kaiser earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Player of the Week. The forward leads the SCAC and ranks 4th in USCAA for field goal percentage (75.3). He is also ranks first on the team in blocks (16).

- Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) matched a season-high 12 points with nine counting for the first 11 UD points in the second half last Sunday. Gonzalez leads the team in assists (57) and headlines the four players in double-digits for steals (23).

- Victor Garate (Austin, Texas) ranks 4th in the league for three-point field goal percentage (45.7). He is second on the team in makes with 16. Colvin is right behind at 15.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS

(Austin College)

The Kangaroos are 5-9 overall and 1-2 against SCAC opponents. The 'Roos have fallen in the last three and are 3-4 at Hughey Gym. After consecutive league setbacks last weekend at Trinity University (79-75) and Schreiner University (81-71), the 'Roos began a five-game home stand with out of conference opponent Howard Payne University last Monday. Austin College was topped 74-67 in that tilt.

Brian Baehl leads the team in scoring with 13.1 ppg. Jeremy Swisher is right behind at 12.5 ppg. Austin Wells is just beneath double-digits in scoring average with a 9.9 mark. Austin Freet garners 7.1 rebounds per game and Stephen Igbinosa has pulled down a 6.5-clip. Baehl has been the top distributor with 56 assists. His assist/turnover ratio is 2.4 which is best in league. As a team, the 'Roos are limiting opponents to 72.9 ppg (best in the SCAC). The opposition has also struggled from three-point territory with a 28.4 field goa percentage.

Austin College season stats

Dallas is 26-42 in the overall series against the 'Roos. The Crusaders managed to split two contests last season with the home team prevailing on their home court. In Sherman, UD fell 85-78 in what concluded its season. Both teams surpassed 50-points in the second half, with Dallas edging 54-51 during that span. Kaiser led with 21 points and Gonzalez had 18. Sarrat chipped in 13 and Rory MacCallum added 10 from the bench. For the 'Roos, Baehl and Igbinosa each scored 13 points.


(Centenary College)

The Gents are 7-7 overall and 1-2 in SCAC play this season. They will begin a four-game home stand on Friday with Colorado College. After the Crusaders visit, Southwestern and Texas Lutheran visit the following weekend at the Gold Dome, where the Gents are 4-1 this season. The Maroon and White picked up its first victory in conference last Saturday at Trinity in 79-71 fashion.

James Sapp boasts the top scoring and rebounding averages in the conference. He is averaging 20.1 points and garnering 10.4 boards this campaign. Teammate Travion Kirkendoll checks in 4th in both respective categories with 15.8 and 7.8 averages. Cedric Harris rounds out the top trio of Gents in double-digits for scoring average at a 10.5-clip. Nearly missing the plateau is Treylan Matthew with 9.8 ppg. The Gents have been strong on blocks, recording 44 altogether. Mitchell Tarantolo leads with 10. Sapp and Wyatt Behara are tied with eight apiece. The team has forced 122 steals while opponents have 83. A quintet of Gents have amassed double figures with Kirkendoll (28) and Sapp (20) headlining the group. Matthews (19), KJ Boyd (18), and Harris (11) complete the unit.

Centenary College season stats

Dallas is 4-7 in the all-time series against the Gents. Last season, the Crusaders dropped both matchups with their trip in Shreveport ending in an 86-73 loss. After leading 18-4 in the early going, UD would trail 37-30 at intermission and never recovered. Sarrat boasted a career-high 25 points. Giadolor followed with 18 and Gonzalez added 11. Centenary's Kirkendoll scored 17 points and snatched 11 boards. Sapp added 10 points.


UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Dallas returns to the Maher Center next weekend. It hosts Schreiner University on January 20 and Trinity University on Jan. 22. Both tip-offs follow approximately 20 minutes after the women's basketball games.
