LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - KYLE POE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a junior from Ventura, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending March 8, 2015.

Poe is a member of the University of Dallas men's basketball, and majoring in history with his goal to teach and coach basketball. The junior guard transferred from Simpson University this year and has served the community a lot prior to his arrival at UD.

Most of his previous community service has been completed in his hometown with a basketball program known as the Ventura County Celtics. Poe has been involved multiple summers and coaches basketball to kids in grades 4th-12th. His favorite part is being able to give back and teach others about the game of basketball; as well as about life off the court.

"It's something I have a passion for, because I have had coaches my whole life that showed me they're not in it for them but for the kids," Poe reflected.

In addition the native of Ventura, California, has volunteered at the Ventura YMCA, coaching kids ranging from 5-10 years old in soccer, baseball, football, and basketball. Poe was also a volunteer basketball referee for intramurals.

At Simpson University, Poe served as a Trac coach, which is a transfer student who works with new transfer students. His responsibilities included: helping them adjust and feel comfortable at the school and also providing those students with someone to go talk to for advice with anything they may need.

Even as a relatively new member of the Crusaders, Poe understands the value he brings from his past service and potential to carry that to Dallas.

"Being a member of the University of Dallas men's basketball team is an honor to be a part of, because the leadership given from coaches and captains is something that you can use in your everyday life," Poe stated. "These Division III schools, especially the SCAC and University of Dallas since I've been a part of it, have done nothing but been great for me. I feel like I have grown so much from being here and being around the guys everyday is something I value deeply and would not give up for the world."
