Men's Basketball falls at Trinity on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (15-8, 6-7 SCAC) was unable to rally two nights-straight as Trinity University (4-20, 3-10 SCAC) posted a 80-73 decision on Saturday night. Both teams scored 48 apiece in the second stanza, but a first half hole was too much for UD as the Tigers evened the season-series with the home venue prevailing in each game.

The road squad fell behind eight from the beginning tip, and would score on a layup from senior Mark Promberger (Phoenix, Ariz.) with 16:26 until the break. Trinity enjoyed managing its first double-digit advantage about a minute from the midway point of the first frame.

Dallas battled to keep things right there, and a Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) trifecta was the final basket to reflect a 32-25 scoreboard at intermission. The sophomore was one of three players to eclipse double figure scoring performances with 13 off the bench.

In the second half, the Tigers remained in front and kept extending the margin through the first 10-minute portion. With 10:35 left in regulation, UD was down by its largest gap, 19 points.

A little bit of a surge would bring the deficit to half of that mark, but the Navy and White were unable to halt TU, despite matching a 43 percent from the floor.

The Crusaders won the battle on the boards with 41 compared to 37. UD also turned the ball over 17 times while the Maroon and White gave it away eight times. The road squad only recorded a single steal in the affair, with sophomore Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) picking it up.

Promberger earned a double-double in the setback with 20 points and 10 boards for team-bests in each category. Sarrat joined the trio of previously mentioned double-digit scorers with 15. Senior Aaron Wyatt grabbed seven rebounds as well.

Trinity was led by two players tying a game-high 21 points. Matt Selling and Craig Saltarelli notched the feat, and Matt Jones and A.J. Pulliam totaled 13 and 11, respectively to round out the quartet.

The Navy and White held an edge in scoring 23-19 on second chance points and 26-24 in the post.
