Men's Basketball unable to get by Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (10-5, 1-4 SCAC) fell 65-58 on Sunday afternoon at Colorado College (8-8, 3-3 SCAC). It's the first time this season Dallas has dropped consecutive contests, as the Tigers posted their second-straight win over a conference foe.

After the squads combined to etch 44 points on the scoreboard by intermission, each offense improved in the second half, with Colorado College boasting a 42-37 edge. The home team shot 41.2-percent from the field, while the Crusaders connected at a 38.6-clip.

Sophomore Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) hit a jumper to get the first points of the game, and UD rattled a 13-5 advantage through the first seven minutes. An 11-2 stretch favored the Black and Gold that lifted them to the first in about seven minutes from the 15:57 point.

Dallas countered with five unanswered point to take another brief edge, and then the Tigers closed the stanza on a 7-1 run. Colorado College was in front 23-21 over UD at the break.

CC mounted the pressure with the first five points being tallied to reflect its largest lead at the time, 28-21. The Navy and White nipped the deficit to four, before the Tigers pounced on the momentum to eventually open its first double-digit advantage, 38-28, with 13 minutes left in the contest.

About six minutes further into the second frame, Dallas would trail by its greatest gap, 14 points.

The Crusaders battled back eventually cutting the margin to as close as five points after senior Kym Malone (Richardson, Texas) drained his lone basket on a three-pointer with 3:24 remaining. The score was 57-52, but CC answered with a Juwan Rohan trey and eventually pushed the advantage back to nine points.

Dallas gained a few more points, but would drop its fourth affair in a row away from the Maher Athletic Center. The Navy and White are 3-4 on the oppositions' home court.

Senior Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas) claimed a team-high 17 points and tied a team-leading six rebounds. Sophomore Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.) was the other forward pulling down six boards and also chipped in 11 points. Sarrat rounded out the trio of double figure scoring performances with 10.

UD was outrebounded 35-29 and both teams were nearly identical in turnovers; with the Tigers committing 13 while the road team surrendered the ball 12 times.

Colorado College was led offensively by Chris Lesnansky with 21 points for a game-high. Eric Houska also marked a double-digit effort with 11 from a bench that benefited from a 30-23 difference.

Dallas returns to Maher Athletic Center on Friday, January 23 as Southwestern University visits for an 8 p.m. tip-off. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action continues on Jan. 24 versus Texas Lutheran University.
