Men's Basketball falls late at Centenary on Friday

SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (10-4, 1-3 SCAC) dropped a 70-53 decision at Centenary College (7-8, 3-2 SCAC) on Friday night. Dallas was outscored 37-20 in the second half, after battling the Gents to a 33-33 tie at intermission.

In the first half, both squads traded baskets and momentum before the home team caught fire and pushed a 20-11 advantage, the Maroon and White's largest at the time.

UD countered, eventually utilizing a 7-0 run to narrow a 22-14 deficit to one point with 7:28 remaining until the break.

In the first stanza, Dallas shot 50 percent from the field while the Gents posted a 46.7 shooting percentage.

The second frame featured much of the same with both the Crusaders and Centenary exchanging baskets. There were 18 lead changes and eight ties in the affair.

A jumper from sophomore Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) lifted the road team to its final lead of the game, 49-48, with 7:31 remaining. The Gents would go ahead on a pair of free throws from James Sapp two possessions later, and finish the contest on a 20-4 stretch.

Dallas finished the night shooting 43.6-percent, while the Maroon and White claimed a 46.2-mark.

A trio of players notched double figure scoring performances led by senior Mark Promberger (Phoenix, Ariz.) with 14 points. Right behind the forward was Sarrat with 13, who also shot 5-of-8 from the floor and 3-of-5 from the three-point arc. Senior Blaine Blackburn (Midlothian, Texas) contributed 10 to round out the unit.

Promberger added to his solid night with the second double-double of the campaign as the forward totaled 10 rebounds.

Kendall Demouchet clinched a game-high 22 points off the bench for the Gents. He was a rebound shy of a double-double as him and Sap each matched a team-best nine boards.

Travion Kirkendoll scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half, and Brandon Campbell added 10 and dished out nine assists.  

The Navy and White were outrebounded 35-30 and committed 19 turnovers, while forcing Centenary into 15 miscues.
