Dallas Men's Basketball earns first SCAC win versus Trinity

IRVING, Texas – The University a Dallas men's basketball team (10-3, 1-2 SCAC) notched its first win in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this season with a 67-53 decision versus Trinity University (1-12, 0-2 SCAC) on Saturday. Dallas improves to 4-1 at the Maher Athletic Center while the Tigers have dropped back-to-back conference matchups.

UD scored at least 40 points in the opening stanza for the fourth time on the campaign, as the team scorched over a 68.2-shooting percentage from the field. The home squad would finish at a 50.0-percent clip in the entire game.

The victory was historic for the Crusaders, who snapped a 23-game losing stretch against Trinity on Saturday. Dallas last prevailed versus the Tigers on January 5, 1995 by a final tally of 58-56. It is the Navy and White's first win versus the conference opponent since the inaugural campaign four years ago when UD joined the SCAC.

Dallas mustered a 40-21 edge at intermission and were able to contain the Tigers throughout most of the contest. After trailing early 5-4, the Crusadeers were rattle off a 19-0 run over a four minute stretch until Trinity ended the spurt on a pair of Josh Ingram free throws with 9:38.

UD's largest advantage occurred up 22 points with about two and a half minutes remaining in the game.

Sophomore Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) paced all Crusaders with 15 points, and senior Mark Promberger (Phoenix, Ariz.) chipped in 11 to claim his third double-digit scoring performance on the season and also grabbed a team-high, seven rebounds. Senior Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas) and sophomore Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.) added eight and seven points, respectively.

UD dished out 17 assists, but was outdone on rebounding by the Tigers 34-31.

Trinity shot 36.4-percent in the contest and placed two players in double figures led by Nik Oakes with 11 points. Aaron Knopp added 10 and Matt Jones led the team in rebounds with six.

Dallas takes to the road next week at Centenary College of Louisiana and Colorado College on January 16 and Jan. 18. First tip is at Shreveport, LA. is scheduled for around 8 p.m. following the women's basketball game.
