Men's Basketball claims 73-56 win on Monday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (9-2) defeated Hendrix College (5-6) in a non-conference affair on Monday night at the Maher Athletic Center. The 73-56 victory lifts Dallas to an 8-1 record outside of conference play and keeps them undefeated at the home confines this campaign.

The Crusaders benefited from a 14-point advantage in the opening stanza, limiting Hendrix College to 21 points. The Warriors would not get on the board until a three-pointer was made about six and half minutes into the contest by Travis Garrett.

UD was not surging either, as the trifecta nipped the deficit in half at the time. After a few baskets were traded, the home squad produced a 14-5 run from the midway point of the frame until just over four minutes prior to intermission to open its first double-digit lead.

The navy and white maintained the momentum and would go into halftime ahead 35-21.

HC battled in the early portion of the second half, but Dallas would push its largest edge of the night to 21 for the first of two occasions. Senior Aaron Wyatt's (Frisco, Texas) jumper with 5:14 capped a string of seven-straight points for UD and gave them a 65-44 gap.

The Crusaders outshot Hendrix 49.1-percent to 44.4-percent, and forced the visitors into 18 turnovers which would lead to 14 points off the miscues for UD. The orange and black did pull down 30 rebounds compared to 28 for the home team.

Pacing Dallas offensively was senior Kym Malone (Richardson, Texas) with 15 points, just one shy from his season-best last Saturday at Austin College. Fellow classmate Mark Promberger (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned the second double figure scoring performance of the year with 14, and sophomore Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) chipped in a season-high 11 to round out the trio of double-digit scorers.

Sophomore Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.) and freshman Anthony Johnson (Texas City, Texas) each added eight points off the bench and Kaiser grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Both teams received strong results from the bench players as the Crusaders narrowly outscored HC 27-24.
