Streak runs out at Seven Victories for Men's Basketball Team

JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (7-1) suffered its first setback Saturday afternoon at Millsaps College (3-4) in a 63-57 decision. The result snapped a seven-game winning streak, five wins shy of tying the program's best start in 2000-01 campaign.

Despite holding a 43-22 edge on rebounds, the Crusaders were topped 14-5 in turnovers and Millsaps managed 13 points from them compared to four by UD. The road squad was outshot 44.4-percent to 35.4-percent.

The Majors boasted an 8-0 run out of the tip-off, and led by as many as 10 with 7:05 minutes remaining in the first stanza. Dallas countered with a 12-3 stretch capped by sophomore Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) knocking a three-pointer down with 3:26 left.

Teams combined for 10 points in the final three minutes, with MC carrying an in front 27-24 at intermission.

A scoring drought existed for both the navy and white and the Majors the first five minutes of the second half, with each trading one basket through that duration. Dallas kept pace and eventually took the lead for the first time on the day with a senior Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas) layup 10 and a half minutes into the frame.

The team's second 12-3 run lifted the Crusaders' to its highest advantage of the contest by five.

Most of the remainder of the game featured Millsaps nipping the small margin and team's went back-and-forth exchanging baskets through until the final 1:13 minutes.

The purple and white had tied things with 2:30 to go and Marc Robertson gave his squad a lead it wouldn't relinquish on the next possession. Robertson notched a game-high 19 points and was too much for Dallas as he secured the triumph by sinking the final seven points, which included four free throws.

A trio of senior Crusaders broke double-digits in scoring as Kym Malone (Richardson, Texas), Blaine Blackburn (Midlothian, Texas), and Wyatt all claimed 10 points. Sarrat was shy of his sixth double figure performance on the campaign, and has missed both times by a point.

Wyatt and Malone tied with a team-best eight rebounds apiece, and classmate Mark Promberger (Phoenix, Ariz.)and Blackburn followed with seven and six, respectively.

The Crusaders did benefit from 14 second chance points, and shot 19-of-22 from the charity stripe.

Dallas will not play another official contest until the calendar month prepares to flip on December 30 versus Illinois College. Once that's complete, the Crusaders enjoy a stretch of four out of five games at Maher Athletic Center, including a season-long, three-game home stand.
