Blackburn ties Contest; Men's Basketball remains undefeated with Overtime win

SHERMAN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's basketball team pulled out a 79-76 victory in overtime on Saturday afternoon versus Sul Ross State (0-2). Dallas remains undefeated and has won twice in extra regulation; the latest occurring in the team's weekend sweep of the Bob Mason Classic hosted at Austin College.

The Crusaders rattled off seven unanswered points to begin the contest. Sul Ross closed the gap back within three quickly, but would never shift the momentum towards the end of the first stanza. The last five minutes of the first half favored the Lobos 10-3, and Dallas held a 37-34 edge at intermission.

In the second half, neither team could shift the momentum as both sides exchanged baskets throughout most of the frame. A three-pointer by the opposition's Rocky Feliciano knotted the affair at 59 with 3:56 remaining.

After a UD layup from senior Mark Promberger (Phoenix, Ariz.), another trifecta put the Lobos up 62-61. The squads traded leads a couple more times, and senior Blaine Blackburn (Midlothian, Texas) came up big again with a game-tying trey with 28 seconds.

The experienced guard was clutch last Sunday against University of Redlands, nailing a three point shot to extend regulation in an eventual victory for the navy and white

Sul Ross missed a shot beyond the arc as time expired and overtime would be required. The Crusaders outscored their opponent 9-6, and the turning point occurred with 1:18 to go.

Dallas broke a 74 tie on a layup by sophomore Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) with just over a minute left. The guard sank a free throw to complete the old-fashioned three-point sequence after being fouled by a Sul Ross player.

UD allowed its foe to nip the deficit to one, but would respond on a layup from senior Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas) to produce what would be the final score. With five seconds left, the Sul Ross Feliciano's trifecta missed its mark and Promberger secured the final rebound to extend the Crusader's winning stretch.

A trio of players notched season-highs with Wyatt pouring in a team-best 24. Promberger and Sarrat also claimed their highest amount of points in the early campaign with 21 apiece.

Wyatt and Promberger posted 10 rebounds each to tally a double-double.

The navy and white shot 46 percent while Sul Ross reflected a 44 shooting percentage from the floor. The Crusaders won the battle on the glass, outdoing their foe 42-36.

Feliciano paced the Lobos with 23 points, and Huffman followed by contributing 18 total off the bench.
