Dallas Men Lose Rematch to Millsaps

After defeating Millsaps College earlier this season at the Maher Center, the Crusader men's basketball team traveled to Jackson, MS to play the Majors for a second time. Much like the first game, the first half tonight was closely played. For the majority of the frame the two squads went back and forth while trading baskets with one another and at halftime UD led the Majors 30-27. The Crusaders offense stalled in the second half though. Their shots stopped falling on there way to shooting 25 percent from the field (8-32). As the Crusaders went cold, the Majors offense heated up, and they slowly built a commanding lead that could not be overcome by UD. When it was all said and done, Millsaps walked away with the 65-51 victory.

Offensively the Crusaders are a very talented bunch, but none of their scorers was able to do much against the Millsaps defense. Leading scorer and senior guard Jim Norton (Louisville, KY/Holy Angels Academy) was limited to 13 points, well below his season average. Norton managed to help keep things close with a team high 3 steals. The only other Dallas player in double digits was senior forward Peter Popovich (St. Louis, MO/Gateway Academy) who scored 10 points. Senior forward Travis Ekmark (Yokosuka, Japan/Nile C. Kinnick H.S.) was the team leader in rebounds with 7. Senior sharpshooter Paul Street (Novato, CA/Trinity Prep) continued to his hot shooting from behind the arc, as he went 2-5 from three point land on his way to an 8 point night.

The UD men return to their home court for their next game against Philander Smith College. The Saturday, January 6 home game tips off at 2:00pm.
