Dallas Stomps Mountaineers, Seniors Dominate

The Dallas men's basketball team won their game against the Schreiner University Mountaineers tonight by the final score of 85-64. UD jumped out to 46-20 halftime lead and never looked back.  The win puts them at 1-1 after losing their home opener on Sunday.

The Crusaders were led by six players who finished with double digit points, including 14 point scorers and seniors Jeff Pritchard (Oak Grove, LA/Frisco H.S.) and Peter Popovich (St. Louis, MO/Gateway Academy).  Pritchard, the floor leader, led the team with 6 assists while hauling down 3 rebounds and adding a steal, while Popovich went 6 for 7 from the field.  The forward also grabbed 6 rebounds, including 4 on the offensive end.  Senior guard/forward Travis Ekmark (Yokosuka, Japan/Nile C. Kinnick H.S.) finished with the double-double on 10 points with 11 total rebounds, while adding 5 assists and 3 steals.  Senior forward Greg Spenla (Tempe, AZ/McClintock H.S.) scored a total of 10 points, added 4 rebounds, and dished out 1 assist.  Senior guard Jim Norton (Louisville, KY/Holy Angels Academy) finished with 12 points and 4 rebounds, and a team high 3 steals.

The team maintained their lead from the beginning and held off the Mountaineers by keeping an average of a 20 point lead. The Crusaders will host their Tip-Off Classic at home on November 20 and 21. The tournament will include: Austin College, Rust University, Sul Ross and the University of Dallas Crusaders.  UD's game on Friday starts at 8:00pm against Sul Ross State University, and Saturday's contest tips off at 4:00pm against Rust College.
