Schreiner Rallies Late to Beat Crusaders and Clinch Series

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team their final game of the regular season in their series finale against Schreiner University.  They finish the season with a 15-24 overall record and a 6-15 record in conference play.

The Crusaders struck first, stringing together three two-out singles to plate the first run of the game as Austin Birkhoff brought home Brett Castillo.  They came up clutch with two outs again in the second inning, this time Castillo provided the finishing touch with a two-RBI single to make it 3-0 Dallas after two innings.

Adrian Montenegro had another solid outing on the mound, blanking the Mountaineers for five straight innings.  Schreiner finally got themselves on the board with two extra base hits in the sixth inning to make it a 3-2 game going into the seventh.

Two two sides traded unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh and the top of the eighth to make it a 4-3 game for Dallas, but Schreiner came through when they needed it most.  Having just tied the game, the Mountaineers came up with a pair of two-out hits to plate two runs and take a 6-4 lead.  The Crusaders went down in order in the top of the ninth, giving Schreiner the win and the series.

Castillo went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the game.  Fernando Davila (2-for-3) and Noah Sharar (2-for-4) both also notched a couple of hits on the day.  Montenegro came out in the sixth with 5.2 inning pitched, allowing just two earned runs with five strikeouts.
