TLU Takes Two from Dallas

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team lost both games of their conference doubleheader against Texas Lutheran University on Saturday.  They fall to 14-21 overall on the year anbd 5-12 in conference play as the Bulldogs pick up the series win.

Game one got off to a back and forth start.  Dylan Krause was looking dominant on the mound early on, allowing one baserunner in the first two innings.  The Crusaders took the early 2-0 lead thanks to RBI by Brett Castillo and Caleb Hohman.

The Bulldogs strung four striaght hits together to start the third inning, culminating in a three run homer to give TLU the 4-2 lead.  Dallas answered right back in the bottom half of the frame with a monster two-run shot by Hohman to tie the game up.

TLU scraped across the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, thanks to a walk and a wild pitch putting a runner in scoring position.  A soft single up the middle brought him home for what would be the last lead change of the game.  The Bulldogs added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth, and the Crusaders were silenced for six innings to give TLU the win in game one.

Play was tight early one in game two as well.  Though he surrendered three straight hits to start the game, Dominic Gill battled his way out of an early jam, limiting the damage to just two runs after loading the bases with no outs.  The Crusaders halved the deficit in the bottom of the first thanks to a squeeze bunt by Fernando Davila to bring Tyler Darnell home.

The Bulldogs plated one run in the third to make it 3-1, but the game quickly got out of hand from there.  TLU piled it on, scoring 26 runs in a five innings stretch.

Down 13-1 in the third, the Crusaders put together four straight hits, three of them doubles, to plate four runs and give themselves a fighting chance.  Hohman hit is second homer of the day, a solo shot in the fifth to make it 13-5, but had no response in the later innings as TLU secured the win and the series.

Hohman finished the day 3-for-5 with two homers and three RBI.

The series will conclude tomorrow, first pitch has been pushed back to 2:00 p.m. in an effort to make it through looming inclement weather.
