Crusaders Drop Close Game With McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team lost their non-conference matchup against McMurry University on Tuesday.  They fall to 3-7 overall on the year.

Dallas 6, McMurry 8

WP: Grayson Winter (1-0)

LP: Colby Fuller (0-1)

SV: Dalton Enberg (1)

The Crusaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a couple of clutch plays in the first.  Jack Coutlas got Dallas on the board with a sac fly, and Andrew Gaspar drove in a pair with a two-out, two-RBI single to drive in Caleb Hohman and Brett Castillo.

McMurry were held scoreless in the bottom of the first, but tied the game up with three runs on four hits in the second.  The inning was capped off with a two=out, two-RBI triple.

The two sides traded blows across the next few innings; Dallas plated a run in the third, McMurry leveled it up with one in the fourth, the Crusaders tacked on two in the fifth on an RBI single by Peyton Garbett, and the Warhawks tied it up again with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

It was nearly a scoreless sixth inning for both teams, but a walk, a knock, and triple, all with two outs, brought in two runs to give them the lead.  The Crusaders would manage just one baserunner the rest of the game, as the Warhawks held on for the win.

Gaspar and Garbett each tallied two hits with two RBI in the game.  Hohman scored three of Dallas' six runs, reaching base three times on three walks.
