Crusaders Drop Slugfest with Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Dallas baseball team lost their non-conference matchup against Hendrix College on Sunday.  The Warriors take the series 2-1, and the Crusaders drop to 3-3 on the year.

Hendrix flew out of the gates, putting up seven runs in the bottom of the first, three of the unearned with two outs.

After tacking on runs in the second and fourth innings, they had another big outburst in the fifth, plating five runs on four hits to take a commanding 15-0 lead.

It took awhile, but the bats finally got going at the right time for Dallas.  The Crusaders brought in seven runs in the sixth inning to nearly halve the deficit, with all seven runs coming with two outs.  The sat down the Warriors in order in the sixth and seventh innings then came out swinging again.

Dallas came all the way back to within two runs with a six-run eighth inning, punctuated by a two-out, three-RBI double by Noah Sharar.  The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the eighth, adding a pair of insurance runs.  The Crusaders could not reply in the top of the ninth, giving the Warriors the win and the series.

Entering the game in the fifth inning, Peyton Garbett led the Crusaders with two hits, going 2-for-2 with two RBI.  Also entering the game in the fifth, Noah Sharar led the team with 4 RBI, going 1-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch.

Cortez Saenz came in to pitch in the fifth inning, allowing just one hit and one unearned run to cross the plate.

The Crusaders have their first home series next on the docket.  They will host Nebraska Wesleyan for a three game series, starting with a double-header on Saturday, Feb. 18.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
