Bulldogs Take Series with Double Header Sweep

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team lost their conference double header with Texas Lutheran on Friday.  They fall to 3-11 in conference play and 9-19 overall.

Game 1 - Dallas 1, TLU 9

WP: Joe Burch (6-2)

LP: Adrian Montenegro (4-4)

After a quiet first inning, TLU jumped out to a big early lead with five runs in the second.  After loading the bases with three straight walks to start the inning, the Bulldogs brought home four runs on two singles and a walk to go up 4-0 before the Crusaders got the first out of the inning.  The Bulldogs made it 5-0 with a sac fly before Dallas was able to stop the bleeding.

The Crusaders got on the board in the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Jon Talley and threatened to scored more, with runners on first and second with one out.  But the rally stopped there, as both runners would be stranded.  Mavrick Martinez hit a two out double in the fifth and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but would also be stranded.  Instead, TLU would add one more in the fifth on another sac fly.

Dallas wouldn't score again in the game, but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying.  They would get at least one runner on base in each of the next four innings and would have a runner in scoring position in three of those innings.  But the timely hits eluded them, and the Bulldogs would come away with a deceptively comfortable 9-1 win, despite being outhit by the Crusaders.

Seven Dallas players had at least one hit in the game, with Talley and Grady Birmingham each notching a couple of base knocks.

Game 2 - Dallas 1, TLU 7

WP: Zach Longshore (5-0)

LP: Graeme Williams (1-2)

Once again, the early stages of the game were uneventful, and once again the Bulldogs would shatter the silence with a big inning.  They piled on six runs on five hits in the third inning, with two of those runs scoring on wild pitches.  The Crusaders responded with the makings of a two out rally in the top of the fourth, with a walk by Jon Talley and a single by Pearce Coleman, but they would both be left stranded as Dallas was still in search of their first run of the game.

After a lead-off single by Andrew Womack in the fifth inning, the next 12 Crusaders would be set down in order.  David Saldana would finally get the Crusaders on the board with an RBI single in the ninth, putting runners on first and third with two outs.  That would be the only run of the game for Dallas, as TLU closed out the game to take the series.

Ryan Flores had his best outing of the year, throwing four scoreless innings of relieft while allowing just three baserunners.

The series concludes tomorrow with a single game, scheduled for a 12:00 pm. first pitch from Katt-Isbel Field in Seguin.
