Crusaders unable to hold back Gents offensive Barrage

Irving, TX  - The University of Dallas baseball team lost the final game of their three game series to Centenary College of Louisiana, on Sunday April 10.  Centenary continued the offensive charge they started on Saturday scoring at least two runs in every inning but the first on route to a 15-2 victory.

Centenary started out scoring in the second inning.  The Gents loaded the bases with two outs, then designated hitter Tyler Welch doubled down the left field line to drive in two runs.

In the third inning, Centenary put two men off to start the inning, then after a wild pitch, second baseman Tyler Erickson hit a sacrifice fly to left to score first baseman Preston Ludwick from third.  The next batter, right fielder Cade Labruyere, singled up the middle to plate catcher Ben Bridges from third.

In the fourth inning, Welch singled and then scored on an RBI double by third baseman Brady Robinson.  Robinson then scored after a pair of wild pitches.

In the fifth inning, Centenary put runners on second and third with one out.  Then shortstop Noah Koehmstedt flew out to right field, but a throwing error by Jon Talley allowed LaBruyere to score from third.  The next batter was Welch who singled through the right side to score center fielder Gary Hewitt from third.

In the bottom of the inning, Crusader left fielder Pearce Coleman reached first on an error by Ludwick.  Two batters later, designated hitter Griffin Kopp hit a booming home run to left center field to bring the score to 8-2.

In the sixth inning, Erickson singled to right center with one on and one out to drive in Bridges from second.  After a single sent Erickson to third, Hewett placed a sacrifice bunt down the first baseline to score Erickson and send LaBruyere to second.  After replacement left fielder John Beaudion was hit by a pitch, Koehmstedt hit a three run homer to left field.

In the seventh, Centenary added the final two runs of the game.  The first run was on a solo homer to left by Ludwick.  The second run was on a single by replacement second baseman Cody Crider.  Crider single to right center, sending Bridges to third, but then an error by shortstop Mike Andersen allowed Bridges to score.

With the loss Dallas falls to 9-17 (3-9), and with the win Centenary improves to 17-13 (7-5).  Dallas continues their season with a road trip to Seguin to play Texas Lutheran University.  The games will be on Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16 at noon and 3:30 PM on Friday and noon on Saturday.  All times are Central.
