Tigers Take Series with Double Header Sweep

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team lost their conference double header with Trinity University on Saturday.  They fall to 9-13 on the year and 3-5 in conference play.

Game One - Dallas 0, Trinity 12

WP: Joseph Chavana (4-1)

LP: Cortez Saenz (1-2)

Game one had all the makings of a pitcher's duel early on.  The Tigers had the chance to jump out to an early lead, loading the bases with two outs in the first inning, but Cortez Saenz got himself out of the jam unscathed to keep the game scoreless.

The Crusaders were also 90 feet away from scoring the first run of the game in the second inning, but they would also fail to score.  Trinity finally broke the deadlock in the fourth inning.  After putting two runners on with a walk and a hit batter, Cristian Holloway hit a three-run homer to put the Tigers on top.  The Crusaders would go hitless the rest of the way, as Trinity piled on runs in the fifth and sixth innings, taking game one via mercy.

Game Two - Dallas 3, Trinity 13

WP: Samuel Conte (3-1)

LP: Ryan Flores (0-4)

This time, Trinity set the tone early, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after the first two innings.  Dallas managed just two hits across the first five innings, before finally cutting a chunk from the deficit with three runs in the sixth.  Tyler Darnell, Grady Birmingham, and Mavrick Martinez drove in the runs with an RBI a piece.

Having added two runs in the fourth, that made it a 12-3 game in favor of Trinity, giving the Crusaders some time to fight back.  But that time would be cut short, as the Tigers took a 10-run lead by scoring in the sixth.  Just like that, the Crusaders were down to their final three outs and they couldn't answer back in the seventh.  Trinity sealed the 13-3 win and the series by taking the first two games.

The series concludes tomorrow with a single game, slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
