Schreiner Takes Series With Big Win

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team lost their conference matchup with Schreiner University on Sunday.  The Mountaineers take the series, two out of three, as the Crusaders fall to 3-3 in conference play.

Game Information - Dallas 7, Schreiner 23

WP: Justin Gallegos (2-1)

LP: Jamie Wallace (1-1)

Schreiner came out of the gates hot, scoring five runs in the first inning, thanks in no small part to a three-run home run by Chance Goins.  The Crusaders had no reply in the bottom half og the inning, but would get on the board courtesy of a Jon Talley solo home run, his team leading fifth of the year.

Dallas had the chance to cut further into the deficit, getting runners on first and second with no outs in the fourth.  But the Mountaineers got out of the jam unscathed, and instead added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-1 lead.

David Saldana singled in a run in the sixth, putting runners on first and third for the Crusaders with two outs, but they could do no further damage.  The Mountaineers did the brunt of their damage in the eighth inning, scoring nine runs on five hits.  Dallas replied in kind with five runs on four straight hits in the eighth to make it a 16-7 game and avoid the mercy rule.  Schreiner put the game out of reach in the ninth, scoring seven runs on seven hits to secure the win and the series.

With his 1 HR, 1 RBI 2-4 day, Jon Talley leads the Crusaders in home runs, RBI's, batting average, and slugging percentage.
