Crusaders Downed by Cowboys

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team lost their non-conference matchup with Hardin-Simmons Univeristy on Tuesday afternoon.  They fall to 6-8 on the year and are now 4-3 at home.

Game Information - Dallas 6, Hardin-Simmons 18

WP: Hayden Clark (1-0)

LP: Colby Fuller (0-1)

The Cowboys took the lead in the first inning, going up 1-0 on a couple of base knocks.  The Crusaders answered right back in the bottom of the inning, Grady Birmingham and David Saldana driving in a couple of runs on back-to-back hits to reclaim the lead.

Hardin-Simmons put up a crooked number in a hurry, putting up five runs on five hits in the second in what would be the last lead change of the game.  The Crusaders managed just two baserunners over the next four innings as they struggled to answer back.  A three-run home run in the fourth and six runs in the fifth gave the Cowboys a comfortable 16-2 lead.

The Crusaders won the sixth and seventh innings, outscoring the Cowboys 4-2 in that span, but they couldn't cut into the deficit enough to avoid the mercy rule.  Jon Talley went 2-4 with two RBI, and Cade Corbett also drove in a pair of runs.
