Crusaders Swept By Hendrix in Opening Series

CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Dallas baseball team was swept by Hendrix College in a three-game series to open the season.

Game 1 - Dallas 4, Hendrix 11

WP: Teddy Olander (1-0)

LP: ethan Mann (0-1)

Two two teams traded blows to start the game, Hendrix getting on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, then the Crusaders answering back scoring an unearned run in the top of the second.  The Warriors put up a crooked number in the bottom of the second with a four-run inning, thanks to a throwing error and a pair of RBI singles.

After five and a half, the Crusaders were able to cut into the deficit with runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings to mmake it a 6-4 ballgame.  But Hendrix came right back with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to give themselves plenty of cushion going into the later innings.  The Crusaders were held scoreless the rest of the way, giving Hendrix the 11-4 win in game one.

Caleb Hoohman hit the first dinger of the season for Dallas, a solo shot in the fifth inning, going 2-5 in the game.  The Crusaders were quite active on the basepaths with six stolen bases, Anthony Maldonado racking up three of them in the game.

Game 2 - Dallas 1, Hendrix 11

WP: Jack Hodgins (1-0)

LP: Adrian Montenegro (0-1)

The Warriors were firmly in control of Saturday's second game from start to finish.  There two runs in the second would ultimately be all they needed for the win, as the Crusaders were held to just one run on four hits.  Hendrix put up five runs in the third inning on four hits, and three more in the fourth inning on two hits.  Fernando Davila had the lone RBI of the game for the Crusaders with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the sixth.  The potential rally was snuffed out as soon as it began, as Jonathan Morales was thrown out trying to get to second on the play.

Game 3 - Dallas 3, Hendrix 15

WP: David Blackburn (1-0)

LP: Ryan Flores

Hendrix jumped out to an early lead on Sunday with three runs in the first.  They managed to do so without getting a base hit, thanks to four walks, a wild pitch, and an error in a difficult start to game three for the Crusaders.  The Warriors added one more in the second, but the Crusaders halved the deficit with two runs in the third.  A lead-off double by David Saldana followed by a Mavrick Martinez triple put the Crusaders on the board, and a sac fly by Michael Anderson brought Martinez home to make it 4-2.

Unfortunately, the Warriors answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits to double their lead; they would add one more run in the fourth to make it a 9-2 game.  Tyler Darnell singled with runners on first and second to bring in a run in the fifth, but it would be the last run of the day for the Crusaders.  The Warriors piled on six more runs across the sixth, seventh, and eighth to balloon their lead to 15-3.  The Crusaders were put down in order for four straight innings as Hendrix sealed the win and the sweep.
