DOWN MEMORY LANE: Baseball Dropped as a Sport after 1981 Season
The 1981 UD baseball team didn't have a winning record but it wasn't a bad season. They finished with an 18-24 record and qualified for the NAIA District 8 tournament. However they did it with only 12 players by the end of the season and Athletics Director and Coach Rich Gaffney wasn't confident the team could go forward without some form of scholarship help to bring in players. Hence the only sport that UD sponsored continuously from 1957 was put in mothballs, not to be revived until 1998.
