FIRST PITCH

The University of Dallas baseball team is set to begin Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play this weekend. The Crusaders (8-8) will host Schreiner University for a three-game set. The series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. from Crusader Field. The series finale is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Dallas took the first game against the Mountaineers last season 5-1, but lost the final two games (12-7, 6-5) in Kerrville, Texas. UD is coming off a four-game slide in California this past weekend against two nationally ranked teams. Video streaming for this weekend will be weather permitting due to rain in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.


UD NOTES

- Joseph Vondrachek (North St. Paul, Minn.) leads the SCAC with 12 stolen bases on the season.

- Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) leads all conference pitchers with 29 strikeouts in five appearances.

- Tyler Montemayor (Boerne, Texas) is tied for the conference lead with three saves on the campaign.

- Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) leads Dallas and sits fifth in the conference with 18 RBI.

- Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) and Voss lead the Crusaders with three wins each.


A LOOK AT THE MOUNTAINEERS

- Devin Hooper leads his team and the conference with a .614 batting average. Josh Gilliam is right behind his teammate with a .473 average in 18 games.

- Gilliam and Jeffrey Williams are tied for the conference lead with 25 RBI. Hooper also had 20 RBI.

- Schreiner had notched 13 homeruns on the year (Tied for the best in the SCAC). Williams has smacked four on the year.

- The Mountaineers also lead the league with 136 RBI and a team batting average of .335.

- Schreiner (9-8-1) is coming off a 13-11 loss at Hardin-Simmons University on Tuesday.
