UD Baseball Volunteers with Special Olympics

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team has several community service projects scheduled for this fall. Dallas spent last Saturday volunteering at the Special Olympics.

The Special Olympics were running a bocce ball & softball competition.  Dallas players helped with setting up the bocce ball courts and the awards area along with helping with clean-up after the event ended.  Some of the guys helped run the scoreboard and keep the book for the softball games, while most of the players helped with the bocce competition. 

During the competition, Dallas student-athletes served as court monitors and officiated the matchups. It was a highly interactive event where the Crusaders had the opportunity to interact with several of the Special Olympic athletes. 

Second-year head coach Erik Grafton offered this reflection, "Our team had a great experience, and the Special Olympics event coordinators were extremely complimentary of our players. Our team thoroughly enjoyed helping make the event a success as well as spending time with the Special Olympic athletes. We are extremely grateful we had the opportunity to serve the community and make a positive impact."

Dallas baseball will be back in action doing a service event with the Miracle League this Saturday. The Miracle League is a special needs baseball league. Check back next week to hear about the Crusaders' experience with that amazing opportunity.
