Voss Part of Traverse City Pit Spitters Incredible Summer League Championship

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Pit Spitters capped off their inaugural campaign in dramatic fashion, beating the Eau Claire Express 3-2 with their second walk-off victory in four games and third decided by a run in the Northwoods League's playoffs. The triumph lifted the Pit Spitters to the Northwoods League Championship after securing a trio of victories through the first two rounds of the playoffs this past week.

Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) of the University of Dallas baseball team was on the pitching staff for the Pit Spitters. Despite not appearing in a playoff game, the lefthander contributed to the spectacular season for the Pit Spitters, as he went 4-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 37.2 innings. Pitching in 14 games and making five starts, Voss won in his final four appearances with at least five innings pitched in the last three. This included a pair of season-high six inning performances.

Since July, Voss surrendered just six runs (five earned) in 27 innings to go with 16 strikeouts. He fanned a season-best six in a 4-0 shutout win over Kenosha on August 4. Voss finished the summer with 22 strikeouts and walked 12, while scattering 29 hits.

The Pit Spitters produced a remarkable summer that saw them sweep the Great Lakes East subdivision, taking the first half, second half, overall, and playoff titles. They tied the league record for most wins in a season and set records for the longest win streak and most shutout victories in a campaign.

It is the second consecutive successful summer league season for Voss, as he earned 2018 New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) Pitcher of the Year and was an NYCBL All-Star, as he played for the Niagara Power.

In three seasons with the Crusaders, Voss has combined to win 14 games that included a personal-best and most since 2014 with eight this last spring. Voss has made 41 appearances and 28 starts. He threw a season-high 73.1 innings in 2019. Voss also went undefeated that same season in true road games, winning all six appearances and spinning a 2.08 ERA to go with 30 strikeouts over 39 innings.
