Voss Won 4th Straight Decision in Summer Ball; Wallace Throws in NBC World Series Last Week
WICHITA, Kan. – Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) from the University of Dallas baseball team was selected on the Texas Express in the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series. After earning an automatic bid to Championship Week in Pool A, the Express would go 0-3 during the stretch of games from August 1-10. Wallace appeared in the final contest of the NBC World Series for the Express on Aug. 5 versus the Diamond Dawgs. Despite a 13-4 setback, Wallace threw two innings in a start where he didn't allow an earned run on two hits. He also walked and struck out one.
Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) picked up his fourth win in a row for the Traverse City Pit Spitters out of the Northwoods League to improve to 4-2 overall with a 3.10 ERA in 37.2 innings. The rising senior for UD has eclipsed five innings in his last three appearances on the mound, including matching a summer league best six in back-to-back showings on July 23 and Aug. 1, where the latter was three-hit ball and a personal-best six strikeouts in the summer slate. Voss has totaled 14 games, 22 strikeouts, and 12 walks allowed. The Spitters have won 10 times in games the southpaw has appeared in, with nine coming in his last 10 turns to toe the slab.
Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) has hit safely in six of his last 10 games with a double and two RBI in that span for the Yorkton Cardinals. His final offensive stats were 26 hits, five doubles 12 RBI, 12 runs, and nine walks with his final appearance on Aug. 6. Taylor last pitched on July 2 and would only throw in six games and make three starts for the Cardinals.
Andrew Magness (San Antonio, Texas) has made three appearances since the previous summer update with the same Cardinals team as Taylor being on. Magness has combined for 10 innings while not picking up a decision and surrendered seven earned runs combined. Sandwiched between outings that Magness went at least four innings was an inning of relief without a run or hit allowed. He faced four batters and struck out the side that day and has 11 punchouts over the last three games.
Cade Corbett (Corona, Calif.) is the third player from Dallas on the Cardinals still playing in recent games. He has two hits and a run scored in three games played in August. Corbett, a catcher for the Crusaders, has been pitching of late making three appearances on the mound. He has allowed six earned runs in two of the outings with his season-best 4.1 innings being a scoreless performance to go with three hits, two walks, and five strikeouts.
Other Crusaders from the baseball program that have had summer league action included: Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas), Joe Vondrachek (North St. Paul, Minn.), Travis Moore (Grand Prairie, Texas), Derek Trevino (Orange Grove, Texas), Zach Salomon (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Michael Jaquez (Irving, Texas), Austin Offutt (Frisco, Texas), Jake Feuer (Houston, Texas), Andrew Womack (Vienna, Va.), and Tyler Montemayor (Boerne, Texas). This gave the Crusaders 15 total players involved in summer ball, and Hovde and Wallace both were selected to play in the NBC World Series.
The UD baseball players will return for workouts in the fall season that is projected to start in October with second-year head coach Erik Grafton.
