Crusaders Edge Wilmington College 8-5; Finish 2-1 at NCC-Saluki Tournament
CARBONDALE, Ill. - The University of Dallas baseball team pulled out an 8-5 victory over Wilmington College (Ohio) to conclude the NCC-Saluki Tournament on Sunday. The Crusaders put up eight runs through the first four innings, including a solo shot by Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas). The Quakers stifled their offense after the fourth frame. WC grabbed three runs late in the contest, but UD was able to escape with the win and a 2-1 overall weekend in Illinois.

Dallas got around a two-out double by the Quakers in the first inning by batting around in the first inning and getting on the scoreboard early. Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) singled to third base and stole second and third base. Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Stickler for the first run of the game. After a Dallas strikeout, the Crusaders rallied with two outs. The next three batters singled, walked, and hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Paul Scioli (Lubbock, Texas) and Joseph Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) then grabbed RBI with consecutive walks. After Dallas batted through, the Quakers finally got the final out after giving up three runs.
Andrew Magness (San Antonio, Texas) was handed the ball to start the game. He gave up a single to open up the second inning but got three straight outs to send UD back to the plate. Stickler once again opened up the inning with a single and a stolen base. Abalos followed his teammate with a base hit and a stolen base to put two men in scoring position for the Crusaders. Jessup Scott (Lewsiston, Idaho) drove in both runs with a base knock to right field. Griesbauer then reached first on an error as another UD run came into score. Dallas had a 6-0 lead through two innings.
The Quakers had two outs to begin the third, but Shane Hill kept the inning alive after he reached on an error by Dallas. Gage Bley took advantage of that error by hammering a ball to left field for a two-run homerun. UD stopped the damage by getting a flyout to end the inning.
Sticker started the fourth inning once again with a single and a stolen base. He advanced to third after a failed pickoff attempt. Unfortunately, Dallas was unable to bring him in to score. Magness got out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth as he got Antonio Miller to line out to the shortstop. Boylson led off the Crusaders half of the inning with a solo shot to left center. Later in the inning Stickler was able to bring in another UD run after a bunt single and RBI.
The Quakers got some offense momentum going in the sixth inning. After a leadoff walk WC grabbed back-to-back doubles to bring in two runs for, but with two men in scoring position Dallas got out of another jam. Maximilian Costello (Anchorage, Alaska) singled for the Crusaders and made his way to third but was stranded to end the sixth. In the eighth Wilmington grabbed one more run, but this would be as close as they could get to UD. Tyler Montemayor (Boerne, Texas) came in the ninth with a one-two-three inning to secure his first career save.
Sticker had a season-high four hits and a career-high four steals to help lead UD. Scott had a 2-4 effort from the plate and 2 RBI to lead Dallas in that category. Abaolos, Scott, and Boylson all had a two-hit day.
Magness went four innings for Dallas, as he gave up four hits and 0 earned runs. Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas), Jaylen Camarillo (Georgetown, Texas) and William Bresnahan (Windham, NH.) all pitched for Dallas on the day. They combined for just three earned. Dallas had a season-high 14 hits on the day.
With this save today, Dallas now has tied its most saves in one season (4) since the 2015 campaign.

Dallas will begin a three-game series against Dallas Christian College next weekend (Mar. 1-2). The series will start with one game on the campus of DCC on Friday at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday the two teams will play a twinbill in Irving. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
