Crusaders Drop Series Finale on Sunday to LeTourneau

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team lost Game 3 of the series versus LeTourneau University 12-6 on Sunday afternoon. The Yellowjackets were led by Jacob Jones who had a 4-5 day at the plate scoring three runs, 2 RBI, and a homerun. Dallas held a 4-3 lead through five innings, but LETU scored nine runs in the final four innings to take the series win.

Bryce Brueggemeyer singled down the right field line as Brandon Ramirez came into to score the first run of the game. Two batters later, Cody Lee walked with the bases loaded to bring in the second run of the inning. In the top of the 2nd Lee Hosie came into score off a pick-off at second.

Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) put Dallas on the board in the second frame after he drove in Jessup Scott (Lewiston, Idaho). Peterson eventually ended up at third after a wild pitch. Peterson scored on a ball four wild pitch. Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) came in relief and found his rhythm in the third to shut down the Yellowjackets.

Scott put Dallas on top in the third inning as he singled down the right field line with the bases juiced as two runners came into score. Dallas tested LETU in the fifth when Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) walked, advanced to second on a balk, and stole third. Unfortunately he was stranded on third to end the frame. LETU took advantage of getting out of that jam to put three runs on the board in the sixth.

The Yellowjackets tacked on six runs in the final three innings to grab a 12-4 lead heading into bottom of the ninth. Michael Jaquez (Irving, Texas) and Abalos knocked in runs to close out the game.  

Following behind Jones Hosie, Ramirez, and Brueggemeyer all had two-hit days. LETU drew eight walks on the day. Lognion went four innings in relief for the Yellowjackets allowing no runs and striking out seven batters. LETU pitching combined for 10 strikeouts.

Abalos went 3-4 from the plate driving in one run. Scott was 2-2 on the day notching 2 RBI. Scott and Abalos each had a stolen base. Seth Hanson (Apache Junction, Ariz.) contributed a run scored and a double for UD.


UP NEXT

Dallas will participate in the NCC-Saluki Tournament hosted at Southern Illinois University next weekend (Feb. 22-24) The Crusaders will begin the tourney by playing Blackburn College (IL) on Friday at 6:00 P.M. UD will also play North Central College (IL) and Wilmington College (Ohio) on the weekend.
