Crusaders Walk-Off Game One; Split Doubleheader on Saturday

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team split its twin bill against LeTourneau University on Saturday. The Crusaders won Game One 3-2. Dallas led from the fourth inning on, but the Yellowjackets scored two runs in the top half of the seventh inning to knot things up. Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) was the hero as he hit a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh. In Game 2 LeTourneau came back with a vengeance to win 9-2.

Neither team had an offensive attack through the first three innings. Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) got the nod to start Game 1 on the mound. He only allowed three hits through the first four innings. In the bottom of the third Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas) got the offense started for Dallas. He doubled to right center and eventually got to third. With the bases loaded Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) singled through the right side as Boylson came into score. Paul Scioli (Lubbock, Texas) then followed that up by hitting into a fielder's choice as the second Crusaders run came into score.

In the fifth, the Yellowjackets found two early hits but had nothing to show for it. Pitchers kept the game close as both starters eventually went the distance. Voss shut LETU down in the sixth, but UD was unable to add any insurance runs as the game went into the decisive seventh inning. The Yellowjackets found a walk and a single after the first out. Brandon Ramirez then tied the game up after he doubled down the right field line. Voss got out of the jam stranding one LETU runner on third. In the bottom half Dallas had two fly outs. Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) kept the line moving with a single up the middle. He later advanced to second on a balk. Abalos came up clutch with a single up the middle to score Stickler for the game-winner.

Voss played the complete game giving up seven hits, and only two runs. He also struck out three batters. Six Dallas batters each had a hit, with Boylson having the one extra-base hit.

Ramirez led LETU going 3-3 with two RBI from the plate. Bryce Brueggemeyer followed his teammate with a 2-3 effort.

This is the Crusaders first walk-off since last February.
