Baseball closes Regular Season with a 5-3 Loss to Schreiner
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team dropped the final game of the regular season to Schreiner University on Sunday. It gave the guests a series sweep, as an early lead for the Crusaders was erased by a three-run fourth.
Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas) smacked his second homer of the three-game set to push the home team ahead by two in the first inning. That was not enough, as Schreiner answered with a trio of runs in the fourth to go up the remainder of the contest.
The victory gives the Mountaineers six in a row to close out the season, while UD dropped its final six in conference play. Five of those setbacks were determined by three runs or less, with a trio of them by a run including the first two of this home series.

Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) led off the Crusaders first inning with a walk. He immediately stole second for his 12th of the season to match a personal-best from a year ago. He advanced on 90 feet on the first putout of the game. After a softly hit groundout to third put two away, Boylson sent his fourth long ball of the campaign to get Dallas the early edge.
Joseph Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) followed with his first of a career-high three hits just fair inside the line by the third base bag for a double. All three of his base knocks were two-baggers on his big performance to lead the Crusaders offense.
His second of the game was nearly in identical locations. Despite Schreiner's third baseman getting leather on the ball to slow it, Griesbauer was able to hustle to second to leadoff the fourth, but would be stranded there as the Crusaders could not answer back after surrendering the lead the previous half inning.
Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) took the ball on the mound in his Senior Day start. His brother was the battery mate catching in his first start at that position this spring.
A. Griesbauer worked three scoreless innings, before running into trouble in the fourth. Two errors aided the Mountaineers in the frame, and it was Kyle Romaguera punching a single through the left side to lift them up 3-2.
Schreiner tacked on some insurance runs in the sixth and seventh. Romaguera struck again for an RBI, as he doubled in Wren who had reached the same way earlier that sixth inning. Miguel Quinones then won a 3-2 pitch battle by homering in the next inning.
The other Dallas player recognized prior to first pitch for Senior Day was Michael Ilardi (Atascocita, Texas). He ripped a single that found the hole on the left side, and Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) scored UD's other run.
Garrett Whitley for the Mountaineers was able to remain composed, and hurled his eighth frame of a quality start without any further damage. The left-hander scattered seven hits, allowed three runs, walked three, and struck out five in the win. He retired 18-of-22 Crusaders from the second through seventh innings.
Two of those runners reached were in the fifth, but the two-out rally did not materialize any runs. Patton reached via one of the two walks he had in that inning. He led off the eighth with a single.
The sophomore third baseman concluded his career season with a .450 batting average to lead the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). His 63 hits were two shy of the program record set by 2015 Hall of Famer Tom Fogerty in 2008. Patton collected a pair of hits in game two on Saturday to eclipse 100 for his career.
The Crusaders ended up being outhit 11-7. A. Griesbauer was saddled with the loss, as he went a season-long 4.1 innings and tied a career-best 17 apperances in back-to-back seasons. The lefty allowed three runs (2 earned) on six hits. He posted a strikeout and no walks.
Four Dallas pitchers combined to allow just one walk.
Schreiner was led by Wren and Romaguera with two hits apiece. Three of their knocks went for all the team's doubles.
Lance Martin recorded his second save in as many games with a perfect ninth that included two strikeouts.
