Baseball swept at No. 1 Trinity on Sunday
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Dallas baseball team fell 7-4 at No. 1 Trinity University on Sunday. The Crusaders struck first for a pair of runs for the early advantage, but the top team in NCAA Division III answered with the next five runs to go up the rest of the way.
Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) singled to left in the fifth inning, and then Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) later scored on an errant throw following an attempt to prevent him advancing on a wild pitch. Those runs cut into the deficit making it 5-4.
Trinity posted two runs in the seventh to provide enough insurance the remainder of the day.

A scoreless first for both sides started the game off. UD was sat down in order, but then five of the next six batters reached safely to chase Trinity starter, Case Williams. Peterson led off the inning with a walk. Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas) singled up the middle.
After a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners 90 feet, Paul Scioli (Lubbock, Texas) clobbered a double that landed down the left field line and scored a pair. Scioli would be caught stealing, but UD strung together a trio of baserunners on a Seth Hanson (Apache Junction, Ariz.) single, Joseph Vondrachek (North St. Paul, Minn.) walk, and Stickler hit by pitch. However, a strikeout prevented further damage.
Trinity got on the board when John Tucker scored on a wild pitch. He would be responsible for the game-tying RBI in the third, as he doubled to left. Tucker crossed home later on a play where Jake Martin grounded out to shortstop.
The Tigers added two more runs in the fourth. Martin homered to right, and then Rafe Chaumette reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Logan Morrison to cross home.
Dallas produced two runs in the fifth to mark the fourth straight inning a team scored. That reduced the gap to one. Two top innings later, the Crusaders got a runner on first and second, but were unable to capitalize.
Martin doubled and Jack Wisniewski singled through the left side to give each of them a ribbie in the home frame. Branden Hance was able to hold the three-run edge the last two innings, and earned the save with three shutout frames tossed. He struck out three and faced only one above the minimum – an intentional walk in the seventh to Patton.
Case Williams earned the win on 4.1 innings of relief. He yielded two runs (1 earned) on three hits to go with a walk and six strikeouts.
Tucker finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, RBI, and three runs scored. Martin tallied the other multi-hit game with a pair of hits to go with just as many RBI.
Dallas pitching gave up 11 hits on the day. Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) and Jamie Wallace (Crocket, Texas) both went 3.1 innings. Nick Goehring (Phoenix, Ariz.) pitched 1.1 innings and only allowed one walk to go one over the minimum faced.

Dallas concludes the regular season at home on April 28th - 29th versus Schreiner University. First pitch for the series-opening doubleheader is at 12 p.m. The series concludes the next day at 1 p.m. Griesbauer and Michael Ilardi (Atascocita, Texas) will be recognized for Senior Day.
