Baseball earns Series Win on Sunday at Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Dallas Baseball team concluded the regular season with a five-run victory at Schreiner University, and secured its first series win in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. The Crusaders claimed the rubber game with their fifth contest to reach double figures in runs – second in conference play. UD's pair of wins this weekend lifts the team to a two-win improvement from 2016.

NOTABLE STATISTICS

- The Crusaders clubbed 15 hits for the third best on the season. It was one shy of UD's highest hit total against a league team in the series finale at Austin College on March 19.

- Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) headlined the offense with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double, two RBI, three runs scored, three stolen bases, and a walk. The center fielder reached base safely for the 30th game in a row and had done so in 38-of-39 contests this spring.

- Stickler boasted his fourth performance this year of having at least three hits. His trio of runs scored is one shy of a career-most done versus Howard Payne University and is the third time to achieve that mark in 2017. Stickler's three stolen bags match a personal-best from Mar. 26 at Centenary College.

- Enrique Vigil (San Antonio, Texas) contributed two RBI and was among a trio to go 2-for-4. Zach San Roman (Miami, Fla.) and JP Fasone (Englewood, Colo.) were the senior tandem to complete the group.

- Vigil scored twice and posted a double and triple for half of UD's four extra base knocks. Colby Davenport (Crockett, Texas) etched the team's third double.

- Dallas claimed seven RBI for the third time in a row this series. The team stole seven bases which tied the second highest amount on the spring with the 14-3 win at Austin College. UD also had five sacrifices.

- Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) started and scattered seven hits with a run over four innings. William Marshall (Frisco, Texas) earned the win in 1.2 innings of relief.

- This was the seventh game this season that the Dallas defense did not commit an error. It had been 19 straight games since UD had last been errorless.

- Schriener was led by Connor Ver Schuur and Sam Pistrui with both going 3-for-4 at the plate. Pistrui had two ribbies and the squad's only extra base hit counting for a triple. Gio Datiz went 2-for-3 to give SU's other multiple hit game. He scored a run.

- Montana Hammack was saddled with the loss. He started on the mound and allowed eight runs (6 earned) on seven hits. He walked two and struck out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders led throughout this afternoon game and never trailed with runs being plated in all but two innings. The first three resulted in the guests scratching a run in each single frame. Stickler started things with a double to left field to secure his amazing on-base streak. After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, a strikeout came next for the second out. A wild pitch plated the go-ahead runner.

In the second inning, Vigil tripled to score Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) who started the frame with a single to left. Seth Hanson (Apache Junction, Ariz.) singled in Stickler in the third. Stickler had led off the inning with a walk and stole second. A sacrifice bunt got him within 90 feet before the team leader in runs-batted-in stepped up.

Schreiner got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the fourth inning. Osman Quintana scored on a passed ball.

The Crusaders used three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to create a five-run swing that extended the advantage to 8-1. Stickler singled in Vigil for the first run of that unanswered stretch, but two errors allowed the other runs in. Fasone and Stickler smacked consecutive RBI-singles in the next top half of the inning.

The Mountaineers stormed back with four in the home turn to bat in the sixth. That reduced the margin to three runs again at 8-5. A bases-loaded walk to Ricky Canales started the scoring. Pistrui laced a triple for two runs-batted-in, which had Ryan Ragle scoring with that same at bat on a passed ball.

UD did respond in the top of the seventh and eighth with a run in each to stretch the margin back to five. Davenport doubled in Fasone for the final run of the game.

Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) entered in the seventh inning. He allowed just one base runner through 2.1 innings of work. Eric Felchak (The Woodlands, Texas) and Cole Morden (Arlington, Texas) earned an out apiece for the final ones in the ninth.
