Baseball topped by Trinity on Senior Day
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team ended the home portion of its schedule on Saturday against Trinity University. The Tigers prevailed 10-4 thanks to a big five-run third inning erasing an early 2-run lead for Dallas.
The Crusaders recognized seven seniors prior to first pitch. The group included: JP Fasone (Englewood, Colo.), Eric Felchak (The Woodlands, Texas), Ryan Hammonds (Cedar Hill, Texas), Zach San Roman (Miami, Fla.), William Marshall (Frisco, Texas), Cole Morden (Arlington, Texas), and Blake Palmer (Coppell, Texas). Each player appeared in the series with Fasone and San Roman reaching base on Sunday. Felchak, Morden, and Palmer appeared on the mound as the first three pitchers, respectively. Their fellow arms in the same class went season-longs on Friday, as Hammonds logged eight innings in the game one start. Marshall threw 3.2 innings in the second contest.

NOTABLE STATISTICS
- Paul Scioli (Lubbock, Texas) continued his power display this month with a home run and double during a 2-for-3. The sophomore clobbered three doubles overall in the series and has six-of-seven this month. His round-tripper counted as his fourth to tie a team-high.
- Seth Hanson (Apache Junction, Ariz.) recorded the team's other extra base hit with a double.
- Hitters three through seven in the lineup all contributed to UD's six hits.
- Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Texas) drew a career-high three walks and extended his on-base streak to 27. The outfielder scored a run and has earned multiple free bases in seven games.
- Fasone is another player with seven games with more than one free pass. He earned two for the second straight game.
- The Crusaders reached base via seven walks overall. This is the sixth time on the campaign UD has achieved that exact amount and eighth time to surpass it. The team-best on the year is eight in those other pair of games.
- Trinity also enjoyed a plentiful amount of ball fours with nine.
- The Tigers were held to single-digits in the hit column for the first time in the series with nine. Scott Walters led the team with three of them including a triple. He also scored three runs.
- Michael Goodrich had the other multiple hit performance with a 2-for-4. George Haaland and Goodrich each added a pair of RBI. The duo respectively contributed a double and home run for extra base hits.
- Mark Tindall earned the win with four innings of relief. He allowed three hits and two runs (1 earned), while walking three and fanning just as many.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crusaders jumped on the board quickly with a run in each of the first two innings. After Felchak got a strikeout looking to end Trinity's first turn to bat with two in scoring position, Stickler started the home half with a walk to push his on-base streak along. He moved to second on a wild pitch and then advanced to third on a groundout by Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas). Hanson notched the RBI by completing the manufactured run on a sacrifice fly to center.
In the second inning, the Crusaders smacked the first hit of the game by either side with a home run to left field by Scioli. That was his second round-tripper at Crusaders Field and it lifted his squad to a two-run advantage.
The Tigers were able to nip the margin by responding with five in the third. A leadoff single led the frame off prior to back-to-back walks. A balk scored Trinity's first run of the game and then a wild pitch knotted things. Haaland sent a double just fair down left field and Frampton singled up the middle to cap the big third.
After adding a run in the fourth, Trinity's six unanswered was halted by the Crusaders benefiting on an error from the guests. San Roman drilled a pitch on the ground back to the pitcher, and a bad throw on the second out attempt of a double play went wide and allowed Hanson to score.
Trinity's Goodrich sent a deep drive over the left center wall in the fifth with one retired to stretch the lead back to four. UD threatened with Scioli clobbering a two-out double down the line in left. He was stranded and then the Crusaders had two left on in the seventh after having the top two hitters in the order, Stickler and Abalos, reach via a walk and hit by pitch.
Trinity secured the series sweep with three runs in its last two innings to bat. This included two in the eighth.

Dallas is on the road for the final series of the season. It is a conference series too at Schreiner University. Dates will be April 22-23.
