HOW IT HAPPENED

Trinity started the game right from the start with a triple over the right fielders head. However, the Crusaders got Walters out trying to score on a fielder's choice the next at bat. Frampton had reached on the play, but was immediately picked off for the second out. Hammonds had two pick offs in the early portion of the game. Jake Martin was fanned looking to end the side.

The Tigers did score in their next turn to bat and placed three runs in the column. Three straight hitters drove in a run for the guests, but the last two were unearned as a Dallas error helped the other team out.

UD was unable to mount any run production throughout the game despite having chances. The Crusaders left eight on base. In the bottom of the fourth, the Crusaders had a leadoff double from Hanson to left field. Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) walked and the two reached scoring position on a wild pitch. Tate was called in to pitch for the Maroon and Gold. He retired the next three hitters – the final two via strikeout swinging – in order to maintain a three-run advantage.

That edge increased with a run in the fifth and seventh. Trinity then broke the game open with three in their final turn to bat. Hammonds had been battling to go the complete game and was greeted to a big applause as the senior likely started his final game at Crusader Field. Fellow classmate Blake Palmer (Coppell, Texas) finished the game. He struck out two hitters.
