HOW IT HAPPENED

Piedmont got on the board with two runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to build an early advantage. In the first, Burden drove in a run by reaching on a fielder's choice. Zach Langley singled through the right side on the next at bat with one out to complete the scoring. Palmer struck out Caleb Norton and induced a groundout to short to escape with minimal damage.

In to relieve Palmer in the third inning, Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) ended his scoreless innings streak at seven to begin the campaign. The Lions doubled their lead with two runs in that frame. Grant doubled for the two runs batted in. Another two-sport in the fourth was caused by an Olson single up the middle and Burden double to right field.

The floodgates widened in the 5th inning, as seven runs came across for Piedmont on the strength of six hits. 12 batters also came to the plate that inning for Dallas' opponent.

The Crusaders offense responded with three runs in the top of the 6th. Hanson reached on an error by the third baseman that allowed Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) to score from second. Two batters later, Peterson doubled with two outs to drive in Fasone and Hanson.

In the 8th inning, Boylson singled to center and drove in Fasone who had led off the frame by reaching on an error by the second baseman. Prior to the Boylson knock, Hanson walked and the two runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Peterson followed the RBI-single with a walk to load the bases, but with one out the Crusaders left the bags full. At that point, the Lions had securely controlled the 10-run final.
