Hammonds tabbed SCAC Pitcher of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Ryan Hammonds (Cedar Hill, Texas) earned the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Pitcher of the Week for 2017. It is the senior right-handers first time earning the accolade. The University of Dallas pitching staff won the weekly honor three times last season.

Hammonds pitched a gem for the Crusaders on Saturday in the season opener versus Sul Ross State University. Hammonds went the distance in scheduled seven-inning contest and was two outs away from a perfect game. The lone blemish came from Johnny Campos leading off the seventh inning with a single. Hammonds retired the first 18 batters he faced, and struck out a career-high 10 of them.

His outing was necessary as Dallas only posted two hits of its own, including a home run by Zach San Roman (Miami, Fl.) in the 1-0 victory.

Dallas resumes play for three games at QuickTrip Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, from February 10-12. The first game is against Hendrix College at 6 p.m.
