Comets swing Momentum Late to Edge Baseball on Tuesday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team was unable to stall the University of Texas at Dallas offense in the final three innings on Tuesday afternoon. Dallas allowed all eight runs, including a five-run seventh, during that span to post an 8-3 final.

GAME INFORMATION

Team Scores: University of Texas at Dallas (8), University of Dallas (3)

Team Records: UT-Dallas (13-12), Dallas (7-23)

Pitcher Records: W) Uhl (2-0), L) Morden (1-2)

The Crusaders and UT-Dallas battled through four scoreless innings and combined for five hits with the home team collecting three. UD picked up four more base knocks in the bottom of the fifth but only crossed one run on the board to gain a 1-0 lead.

That run was an RBI-single by freshman Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas). The lead-off hitter beat out a dribbler to first base and classmate Paul Scioli (Lubbock, Texas) scored to break the deadlock. An inning later, freshman Jake McCoy (Fort Worth, Texas) grounded out to second to give Dallas a 2-0 advantage.

Trouble occurred for the Crusaders in the seventh inning. Three straight singles, including the first UT-Dallas run on a throwing error that allowed all runners to advance, started the five-run outburst. Three our of four Comets' base hits did not leave the infield.

The guests added another run in the eighth on a Haden Johnson triple to right field. Dallas responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI-single to left by junior Avery Arnold (McKinney, Texas).
