Baseball All-Conference Teams Announced; Dallas places Trio on List

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) released the 2015 spring All-Conference Baseball Teams on Friday evening. Three players from the University of Dallas baseball team claimed accolades.

Headlining the Crusaders on the All-SCAC Second Team were junior Luciano Villanueva (San Antonio, Texas) and senior Trevor Keele (Edgewood, Texas) for outfield and designated hitter (DH), respectively.

Villanueva notched his first All-Conference honor of his career after pacing Dallas with a personal best .322 batting average and three home runs on the campaign. Playing primarily left field, the native of San Antonio, Texas, managed 39 hits, four doubles, two triples, and five stolen bases. He posted 15 multi-hit affairs including a stretch of eight out of 10 contests from February 21 through March 14.

Keele earned his third consecutive All-SCAC award in his third season with UD. The first baseman ranked second on the club with 37 hits and a .289 batting average. Keele blasted two home runs and drove in a 11 runs while crossing the plate 20 times. He carried a team-long, seven-game hitting streak this year, including a season-best, 4-for-5, day at the plate during the span.

Rounding out Dallas with a pair of honorable mentions were sophomore Ryan Hammonds (Cedar Hill, Texas), and Keele.

Hammonds garnered his first collegiate accolade with a solid spring; anchoring the pitching staff in several categories. The sophomore logged 65 innings, making 11 starts in 12 appearances on the bump. Hammonds produced a 3.88 ERA and allowed 14 walks to go with 49 strikeouts.

Keele displayed his versatility by toeing the rubber for the Navy and White. Serving primarily as a closer, the senior from Edgewood, Texas, hurled 12.2 innings through nine appearances this season. He locked down four saves to match a career-high and spun an earned run average under 1.00 at a 0.71-clip. Keele added 19 punch outs, as he tied a season-high with five on two occasions.
