6-Run Rally Falls Shy for @UDallasBaseball in 9th

SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team (9-7, 0-1 SCAC) pulled a strong comeback bid in its final at bat in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opener at Texas Lutheran University (12-5, 1-0 SCAC) on Saturday. The Crusaders trailed 8-1 in the ninth, and rattled off a six-run frame. However, Texas Lutheran's six-run seventh was too much to overcome.

The Bulldogs scored in the first inning on a home run from Tony Gennusa. Dallas evened the score in the third with senior Alex Thornton (Fort Worth, Texas) driving in classmate Mark Carlson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) on a sacrifice fly. TLU countered with a run in the home half of the inning. The home squad would go in front and never trailed. Six runs in the seventh that were highlighted by a Keaton Bohrm triple, Klaus Bohrma, and Tyler Caroll Single led to half the runs scored.

Dallas mustered one final effort with six runs coming in its final at bat. There were only three hits in the frame, with junior Trevor Keele (Edgewood, Texas) punching the only one that resulted in an RBI. A pair of wild pitches led to a pair of runs as well. Five of the runs crossed with two outs, but a strikeout with the bases loaded ended thriller.

Keele went 3-for-5 with a run and ribbie. Carlson drilled two triples for each of his hits. Junior Martin Cronin (The Woodlands, Texas) allowed five runs (4 earned) on eight hits through six frames in the loss. Sophomore Joshua Crapps (Anchorage, Alaska) fanned three in two innings.

TLU's Aaron Aleman (4-1) earned the win going six innings in the start. He allowed a run on four hits, walked two, and struck out four.

A doubleheader wraps the series up tomorrow.
