Dallas Baseball Overcomes Early Deficit in Win Over Central Baptist

Down early to the Central Baptist College Mustangs, UD responded with 3 runs in the fifth and held on to a one run lead for the rest of the game to win their second straight.  Junior pitcher Austin Cooper (Afton, OK/Afton H.S.) hurled 8 strong innings in which he held the Mustangs to 1 earned run on 8 hits and 4 strikeouts before turning over the reins in the ninth to junior righty Philip Carkhuff (Marietta, GA/The Lovett School). Carkhuff left no doubt striking out two on the way to his 4th save of the season. With the win Cooper improved to 2-7 on the season.

Down by 3 runs, sophomore outfielder Brian Shelburne's (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth H.S.) RBI triple that plated senior infielder Sean McSheffery (Woodridge, IL/Downers Grove North) got UD on the board in the bottom of the third inning, and the comeback was once again underway way.  After a scoreless fourth, Dallas was back at it with 3 runs in the bottom half of inning number five.  McSheffery got the scoring started in the frame when his sacrifice bunt knocked in freshman infielder Trevor Allred (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage H.S.), and freshmen outfielder Nico Caluda's (New Orleans, LA/Jesuit H.S.) single drove fellow sophomore outfielder Devin Arnold (McKinney, TX/McKinney H.S.) to knot up the game at 3 a piece.  After reaching on a fielder's choice, Shelburne's (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth H.S.) steal of home with 2 outs gave UD the lead for good as Cooper and Carkhuff silenced the Mustang bats.

UD returns to action tomorrow morning against the Briarcliffe College Seahawks in a nine inning game.  After the neutral game, the UD baseball team is back at it in another nine inning affair against Central Baptist College at 2:00pm.
