Five UD Coaches Attend Inaugural Women in Athletics Leadership Symposium

DALLAS – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) hosted its inaugural Women in Athletics Leadership Symposium, June 26-27, in Dallas, Texas, at the Embassy Suites – Love Field.

The University of Dallas had five members from its coaching staff in attendance that included: Kelli Trautmann (volleyball), Lexi Stinson (women’s soccer), Destinee Johnson (women’s lacrosse), Caitlynn Dykes (softball), and Bri Calver (women’s basketball).

The event is designed to provide professional development opportunites to prepare female administrators, coaches and student-athletes to be better prepared to administer in today's challenging environment.

The SCAC Women in Athletics Leadership Symposium – the first event of its kind in conference history – is being funded in part by the NCAA Division III Strategic Initiatives Grant Program.

There were six facilitators at the event, including Nicole LaVoi who is the Director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport (Dallas Receives High Ranking). Linda Schirmiester-Gess and Raven Scott were also present to speak from Strive Leadership. A couple SCAC institutions had administrators to round out the Facilitating panel with Colorado College’s Vice President and Director of Athletics, Lesley Irving, and Senior Women Administrator, Anne Goodman James, and Southwestern University’s Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Glada Munt.

"I thought both Dr. Nicole M. LaVoi and the Strive Leadership speakers did an amazing job and it was very educational and presented useful information that was very beneficial in my line of work," Trautmann praised. "I feel fortunate that the SCAC put together this event for our women staff in conference."

"The SCAC Women in Athletics leadership Symposium was a great experience," Johnson stated. "To be around a group of women that are helping pave the way for our girls and women in sports was an amazing feeling. It was great learning where girls and women are at today in sports, sharing new ideas on being a better leader and making friendships."
