DOWN MEMORY LANE: Holy Trinity College Commits to Athletic Department

IRVING, Texas - Holy Trinity College is a forerunner of the University of Dallas. In the February 21, 1909, edition of the Dallas Morning News announcing the hire of W. S. Hoffman, “a first-class professional athletic director” Holy Trinity committed to the athletic department stating “Holy Trinity College has also gone to very great expense to fit up a large gymnasium with the most improved and modern apparatus and has organized classes in drill work. The athletic board is striving to make the athletic department as attractive as possible and hopes to bring its standard of excellence up to that of any college in the country. Our great educators have vey sanely come to the conclusion that if they wish to properly develop the mental faculties of our young people they must do something to develop their physical faculties also, for it is upon them to a very great extent that the vigor and health of the mind depend.”
