SCAC Announces 2019 Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams; Dallas Has 7 Named

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its 11th annual spring All-Sportsmanship teams. A total of 65 student-athletes were selected to the 2019 squad in the sports of baseball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.

The SCAC places a special emphasis on sportsmanship each year and is asking all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions throughout the 2018-19 season. Read the SCAC Presidents’ Council statement on Fan Sportsmanship.

Each head coach was asked to elect one member from his or her team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season. 

Representing the University of Dallas were seven student-athletes from baseball, men’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s track and field.

Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) claimed the distinction for baseball for consecutive years. A four-year letterwinner, Peterson was a staple on and off the field. He earned SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week for his leadership with FCA on campus.

Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico) claimed the award for men’s golf. The sophomore putted the final stroke to lead the Crusaders to their first ever SCAC Title.

Tera Espinosa (Caldwell, Texas) was another senior for UD to garner the award. Lettering three years with softball, Espinosa provided a steady glove at first base.

Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.) and Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) earned the first honors for their respective lacrosse programs. Smith scored 31 goals and totaled 38 points to push him to career records in each category at 76 and 98, respectively. Pauletti was third ranked on the Crusaders for goals with a personal-high 25.

Kevin McGuirk (Front Royal, Va.) and Lauren Zammit (Kingswood, Texas) round out the group of recipients for track and field. McGuirk headlined the men’s side with a school record in the 400 Meter Hurdles in five consecutive meets he competed in the event. This included gold at the SCAC Championships. Zammitt performed in her first season with the track and field team but is a dual-sport athlete with cross country (2017). She ran at five competitions this spring, tackling short distance runs and was part of the 4x100m Relay that included three events participated in at the TLU D3 Challenge.

Five student-athletes were honored on the All-Sportsmanship Teams for the first time in their careers. Montalvo and McGuirk were First Team All-SCAC, while Pauletti was All-SCAC Honorable Mention.
