34 Crusaders Named to 2019 SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll today for the 2019 spring term and 572 student-athletes made the list.

34 student-athletes on this list represented the University of Dallas across seven spring programs. Baseball led the group with 11 players, with eight returning from having the distinction a season ago. Those repeating included: Josh Abalos (4 times), Jordan Stickler (4), Mark Peterson(4), Nicolas Hovde (3), Nick Goehring (3), Paul Scioli (3), Maximilian Costello (2), and Joseph Vondrachek (2). Luke Boylson, Seth Hanson, and Jake Schwartz were first time recipients.

The women's lacrosse team followed with seven in its first season to have any recipients. Forming this septet were: Jeanine Dorrough, Gillian Gaffney, Sarah Gamble, Dalayna Marji, Alex Parkey, Erika Keever, and Lexi Leite. Gamble also claimed a spot on the SCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll for women's soccer this past year.

Softball increased its number to six after just a pair a spring ago. Those same two: Emily Martin and Katelyn Lazarek repeated and Martin landed on the list a third consecutive spring. Tera Espinosa grabbed the honor a second time as well. Mel Savala, Maggie Watts, and Caitlyn Stevenson garnered the achievement the first time.

UD women's track and field followed with Hannah Green, Clare Hernandez, Brenda Mendoza, and Lauren Zammit making a quartet from the program. Green earned the honor in 2018, and Zammit was on the SCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll for women's cross country in 2017. The men's track and field team had two receive the honor with Kevin McGuirk and Nat Kajiwara. McGuirk is a three-time recipient, while Kajiwara was a dual sport athlete with men's soccer and was on the SCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2017 and 2018.

The men's lacrosse team also placed student-athletes on the honors list for the first time in school history with Tucker Jameson, Ben Simansky, and Tyler Smith garnering recognition.

Jacob Wade from men's golf was the lone member from the team to qualify, as the SCAC First Team All-Conference winner was honored with the academic accomplishment for the first time.

Since its inception in the fall of 1997, over 27,500 male and female student-athletes have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom.

The 571 spring honorees are the most for the conference since the league started listing a separate winter and spring honor roll prior to the 2015-16 academic year.

To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.
