Dick Strockbine held the position of athletics director at the University of Dallas since January 1995. Strockbine retired on July 1, 2021 from UD after transforming the athletics department from NAIA to NCAA Division III, upgrading facilities as well as adding mutliple sports that led to the 15 varsity sponsored today, and expanded staffing from four to 18 full time members. Upon his retirement, UD announced strockbine has been awarded Athletic Director Emeritus based on many years of principled leadership and dedicated service. 

Prior to his arrival on the Irving campus, Strockbine was athletics director at the University of Maine-Fort Kent.

He is a graduate of Bethany College (W.V.) where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, as well as letters in football and baseball. He later received a Master of Arts in International Relations from Webster University.

Strockbine is a 22 year veteran of the United States Air Force with key assignments as a Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile flight commander in the 564th Strategic Missile Squadron and as executive officer of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Korat Air Base, Thailand and the 341st Strategic Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana. While in the service he played football at Moron Air Base, softball at Bunker Hill Air Force Base, soccer at Korat Air Base, Little Rock Air Force Base and in Bangkok while assigned to 7/13th Air Force at MACTHAI Headquarters. He also coached basketball at Bunker Hill Air Force Base and Moron Air Base.

His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Ribbon with five bronze stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

His collegiate career includes stops at Connecticut College, Incarnate Word College, St. Mary's University in San Antonio and the University of Maine at Fort Kent. As a soccer coach he holds a 92-79-1 career record, including five wins over NCAA Division I opponents, with Heart of Texas Conference championships in 1987 and 1988 and an NAIA District 4 championship in 1987. He started the men's soccer program at Incarnate Word and the women's program at St. Mary's. He was a Heart of Texas Conference Co-Coach of the Year in 1991 and NAIA District 4 Co-Coach of the Year in 1992.

He is currently a member in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the Division III Athletics Administrators Association. He served as President of the Association of NCAA Division III Independents and did a four-year term as NCAA Division III representative to the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee. He also was on the DIII Management Council and on the Championships, Membership, and Nominating Committees.

A native of Port Washington, N.Y., he is married to the former Debra A. Dixon of Tampa, Fla. They currently live in Carrollton, Texas. The couples' four children live throughout the United States. Erich resides in Frisco, Christopher lives in Carrollton, Alex lives with his wife in Woodland Park, CO., and their daughter Jennifer lives in Nashville. The couples' fifth child Richard is deceased.
